KAARIGIRI - 2016
This Summer Camp was inspired by Waldorf Education, and organised to bring to children's attention, the crafts in nature, that is sprawling all around. It was designed in a manner that they experience and realise that we don't always need ready made things to entertain us, because nature is full of awe and entertainment.
To achieve this objective, the camp was themed around nature and its 'kaarigiri'. It included crafts that man created, to make life beautiful. The objective was also to make children overcome their own limitations and fears, of what they think is possible for them to do, and to realise that we ourselves are capable of creating beauty around us, in nature-friendly ways.

Tree Climbing - Experiencing nature first hand.
The 'roughness' of the bark against the skin... the 'levity' of the body when it climbs upward, defying gravity... the strength of the branches 'felt' in the palms and feet... the 'wonderous' feeling experienced when sitting atop the tree... the 'bird's eye view' of the world around us... the confidence that seeps through children when they make their way up the tree... It's incomparable. Its experiencing nature the way it was created, unadulterated..!! Its falling in love with nature, and its creator. It is also realising the 'tool' that our HANDS are, and how it allows us the freedom to do/make/create whatever we wish to. |
Nature Walk, was a simple but profound interaction with nature. Children walked up to an open patch of land, looked around, explored the space freely, and finally climbed a tree...!!!
Other crafts included making bandhani kerchives, playing the recorder, stone painting, finger knitting, mandala making, cooking, paper bag making, block printing, and movie watching & review, |
