‘Panchtatva’ summer camp - 2015
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
-John Lubbock
Kho-kho, hide & seek, soccer, mud pies, climbing trees, is there anything more fun in the world than playing? Computer games, TV, PS4, mobiles; something seems to be missing: Joy? Shared connection? The carefree laughter has been replaced by the quick jabs of a controller. Today we are living in “generation net” and kids prefer their virtual lives than the real world. Today's youth is more inclined to stay indoors and watch television, play computer games and, in some cases, even do their homework, than go outside to play, according to researchers.
With the very thought in mind, Shishyaa School organized an outstation as well as an inhouse summer camp in the month of May 2015 for age group between 5 to 15 years. The main purpose of this camp was not only to take children away from the world of fancy gadgetsbut also to familiarize them with the “real world”. The activities in this camp were exclusively based on these five elements, and the 3 C’s ie. Collaboration, Communication and Creativity.
‘Panchtatva’ according to Indian Mythology represents the five elements from which life evolves. This universe and all it's contents are basically composed of panchtatva comprising of Prithvi (earth), Apas (water), Tejas (light), Maruta (wind) and Aakaash (sky). It is believed that our body is also composed of the same basic elements.
